Monday 4/11

Today was a MATHia/Desmos day for us, the first of this new grading period. I hope you were able to get off to a great start! MATHia progress is available at the link above.

Friday 4/8

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Here is this week's extra credit:

We've been studying scenarios that can be modeled using two linear equations recently. Your objective, should you choose to accept it, is to create your own scenario that can be represented, and hopefully solved, using a system of linear equations.

We've looked at systems where two items are decreasing (reef tanks), two items are increasing (savings accounts), one item is increasing and one is decreasing (income vs cost), and even scenarios where we're tracking the combination to two variables (adults and children, attendance vs admission).

Complete each of the tasks below and post all your content to the Google+ Community. Be creative! Impress us!
  1. Define your problem scenario. What's happening? What do we need to determine?
  2. Write two or more equations to represent the scenario. Define your variables.
  3. Solve the system via substitution.
  4. Solve the system graphically.
  5. Explain what the solution means in terms of the problem scenario.
  6. Post text, written work, graphs, photos, and/or videos to Google+.

Wednesday 4/6

We spent another day working with solving systems of linear equations by substitution, this time shifting our attention towards context problems and systems that model them with Lesson 11.3, Problem 3 and Lesson 11.4 Problem 1, Part 1.

Be sure to put in an additional 10 minutes each night studying these new concepts and/or reviewing any homework or class work errors. This is tough stuff and requires extra effort to master.

Tuesday 4/5

Today we introduced ourselves to a second method to solve systems of linear equations: Substitution!

We're going to be working with this method all week, so you'll have plenty of time to get comfortable with the ins and outs.

Today was a good intro. Tonight's homework will be a good chance to test out your new skills.

Monday 4/4

We worked in MATHia and Desmos today. MATHia/Desmos grades will be calculated on Friday. Are you on pace to meet your goals?
