Thursday 10/29

We worked on an awesome Desmos activity today, Des-Face! If you'd like to work on it at home, just head to student.desmos.com and enter the class code bf9g.

Also, if you'd like to see a slightly more advanced one, check out my Des-Face creation! Perhaps it'll give you some good ideas for non-linear shapes and shading. :-)

Homework: Student Assignments workbook 4.1

Wednesday HW Solutions: Chapter 4 Pre-Test answer key

Wednesday, October 28, 2015

Wednesday 10/28

I was at the district office all day, but in my absence you took the Chapter 3 test. I hope it went really well for you, perhaps even so well that you exited the classroom looking like this guy!!

Homework: Chapter 4 Pre-Test

Tuesday HW Solutions: Problem 2 worksheet answer key

Tuesday, October 27, 2015

Tuesday 10/27

We jumped into Chapter 4 today with Lesson 4.1 in class. We did problem 1 in groups and went over solutions together in class today.

Your homework is to do the Problem 2 worksheet to determine . . . will he catch him?

Don't forget - you'll be taking your chapter 3 test tomorrow in class. Study well, and arrive prepared and confident!

Homework: Finish the Problem 2 worksheet

Monday 10/26

Today was a MATHia day. We passed back MATHia grades from the past two weeks, and got off to a good start for this next grading period. You should be wrapping up island 3 of MATHia (if not already working ahead).

We'll be taking our chapter 3 test on Wednesday this week. Good study tools are your chapter 3 pre-test, the chapter summary at the back of the textbook pages, your class work, and your homework assignments.

Homework: MATHia practice

Friday 10/23

Chapter 3 is complete. Nice work! We'll take our test on it next week. Perhaps now is a good time to begin studying . . .

Don't forget next week is Red Ribbon Week!
  • Monday: Team up against drugs!
  • Tuesday: Do the math - drugs just don't add up.
  • Wednesday: We're too bright for drugs!
  • Thursday: When you wish upon a star, there will be no drugs where you are.
  • Friday: Wear red day!
School dress code still applies (including hats).

Wednesday 10/21

We learned three major things in the first half of Lesson 3.6 today:

Tonight's homework focuses on the second two skills.

If you need some help on tonight's homework, check out the examples on pages 198 and 199 and the videos above! They'll show you exactly what to do with the info you have to determine the y-intercept and the slope. You can also post up where you need help in the Community.

Parents: Have your child explain to you the process to find the equation of a line 1) given the slope and a point, and 2) given only two points. If they can explain their strategy in their own words, you know they're ready for their homework.

Homework: Equations in Slope-Intercept Form worksheet

Tuesday HW Solutions: Student Assignments 3.5 workbook answer key

Tuesday, October 20, 2015

Tuesday 10/20

Today we finished Lesson 3.5 and can now determine the y-intercept from a graph, a table, a context, and an equation.

Parents: Ask your child to explain to you how to find the y-intercept in each of the four representations above.

Homework: Student Assignments workbook 3.5

Monday 10/19

We spent today in MATHia working towards our end-of-the week goals. Are you on pace to meet them by Friday?

You should be nearing completion of island 3, since we nearing the end of chapter 3.

Homework: MATHia practice

Friday 10/16

Ten weeks and two common assessments down! Have a great weekend, everyone.

Here is this week's extra credit:

Thursday, October 15, 2015

Thursday 10/15

Today we learned how to find the y-intercept in a graph, table, context, and equation in Lesson 3.5. We did the first half of the lesson, and will finish it next week.

We'll be taking Common Assessment #2 tomorrow. Be sure to study all of Chapter 2 tonight, and the first half of Chapter 3 (everything we've learned so far), so that you arrive fully prepared tomorrow. If you have any questions, post them up in the Community and we'll help you out!

Homework: Determining Y-Intercepts worksheet

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

Wednesday 10/14

I was at the district office all day, but in my absence you worked in MATHia.

Reminder: We'll be taking Common Assessment #2 on Friday. Your chapter 2 and 3 pre-tests, and your chapter 2 test all make great study tools! A study guide has been uploaded to the Document Locker to help you get ready.

Homework: MATHia practice

Tuesday HW Solutions: Student Assignments workbook 3.4 answer key

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Tuesday 10/13

We finished our look at finding the rate of change / slope of an equation today in the second half of Lesson 3.4.

We also did a Desmos activity to investigate the meaning of slope in graphs and equations. If you'd like to do/finish the activity at home, go to student.desmos.com and use class code we2s. Extra fun: have your parents try it!

Also, a reminder that we'll be taking Common Assessment #2 on Friday. A study guide has been uploaded to the Document Locker (linked in the toolbar above).

Homework: Student Assignments workbook 3.4

Monday, October 12, 2015

Monday 10/12

Today we learned how to find the slope (also known as rate of change) from an equation in Lesson 3.4. We learned that when an equation is written in slope-intercept form, the coefficient in front of the variable x represents the slope. To find the slope, all we have to do is rewrite any equation in slope-intercept form!

Don't forget to check your class work with the answers linked above.

Homework: Slope from Equations Worksheet

Friday, October 9, 2015

Friday 10/9

And just like that, the first quarter of the school year is complete! Report cards will be carried home next Friday.

But first . . . the last MATHia grading period of this quarter ends tonight at midnight. Have you met your goals yet?

Thursday HW Solutions: Student Assignments workbook 3.3 answer key

Here is this week's extra credit:

Thursday, October 8, 2015

Thursday 10/8

Today we tackled Lesson 3.3, which focused our attention on finding the rate of change and unit rate from a context.

We learned that there's not a set formula or method to solving these - it's all about thinking critically, evaluating what you'd need to know to answer the question, and using the clues given to determine the rate.

Homework: Student Assignments workbook 3.3

Wednesday HW Solutions: Student Assignments workbook 3.2 answer key

Wednesday, October 7, 2015

Wednesday 10/7

We finished our look at rates of change from a table today with the last part of Lesson 3.2. The focus today was on tables that may or may not represent linear functions, and what it takes to tell the difference.

Homework: Student Assignments workbook 3.2

Tuesday, October 6, 2015

Tuesday 10/6

Today we continued our look at finding the rate of change and unit rate from a table with Lesson 3.2. We're now proficient with both informal and formal methods.

Homework: Finish textbook pages 148-149

Monday, October 5, 2015

Monday 10/5

We spent today working in MATHia. The current MATHia grading period will close on Friday. Are you on track to meet your goals?

Homework: MATHia practice

Friday, October 2, 2015

Friday 10/2

Great job this week, everyone!

Here is this week's extra credit, with a twist:

Write two example equations, one that represents a quadratic function and one that represents a cubic function (be sure to tell which is which). Post your equations to The Honors Community as either text, a picture, or a video. Be creative! Impress us!

Here's the catch: your examples must be different from the ones posted by other students. No repeats.

Thursday, October 1, 2015

Thursday 10/1

Today we learned how to find the rate of change from a table with Lesson 3.2. We learned both an informal method (arrows) and a formal method (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1).

Be sure to practice the formal method on your homework tonight, as it's a more powerful way to determine a correct answer without error!

Homework: Textbook pages 154-155

Wednesday HW Solutions: Student Assignments 3.1 answer key
